EXPERIENCE
CONTRACTING
Unlike most contractors today, D.L. Norton self-performs a large
percentage of it’s work. Experience creates knowledge and knowledge is
essential to a company’s ability to manage difficult and unusual
projects. It is the foundation for successful day to day problem solving
on the jobsite. Schedules, quality control, and budgets all benefit
because project control is enhanced and corrections are immediate.
We also realize that the cost of construction remains the most important factor to owners. As such we routinely rely on a competitive procurement among subcontractors. At the same time, our ability to self-compete and perform various tasks offers an important alternative to controlling costs. Historically, this occurs when a task is extremely specialized, as in historic restoration, or the pool of qualified subcontractors is limited. Our experience serves as a safeguard against budget surprises. Owners are never held hostage when working with D.L. Norton.
DIVERSITY
Our portfolio encompasses a wide range of diverse and difficult projects, both building and engineering, and reflects our background in historic restoration, water and wastewater, and parks and recreation. They reflect our history of successfully working in remote locations, from Death Valley to the Grand Canyon, and our ability to self-perform a large variety of construction work.
HISTORIC RESTORATION
We are especially proud of our work on historic properties. This work
dates from the early 1980’s and includes some of the most prominent and
culturally significant structures in the State of Arizona. As a result,
we have gained expertise managing the sensitive integration of new
electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems within a historic
structure and in self-performing the preservation or restoration of:
- Masonry and Stone
- Doors and Windows
- Metal
- Structural Modifications and Additions
WATER & WASTEWATER
Our work on engineering and water wastewater related projects dates from the early 1970’s. These range from complicated renovations and retrofits to new arsenic removal facilities and from fixed price contracts of a few thousand dollars to design build contracts worth over thirty million dollars. During this period, we have developed expertise in self-performing a variety of activities related to water and wastewater projects, including;
- Demolition
- Earthwork
- Concrete
- Yard Piping
- Process Piping and Equipment
PARKS & RECREATION
Our park development and improvement projects, including both civil and recreational facilities, also dates to the 1970’s and includes work at every level of government. As an example, we have completed 22 projects for Maricopa County Parks and Recreation and over 40 within Grand Canyon National Park. We self-performed the majority of the civil work related to these projects and acquired extensive experience in protecting sensitive environments and plant salvage and restoration. At the same time, we also developed a deep seated appreciation and respect for Arizona’s natural environment. |
